Two women, aged 32, and 39, have been arrested by police investigating the murder of a 36-year-old man in Kilkeel.

The shooting happened in the Rooney Park area at 2230 BST on Saturday.

The victim was wounded in the chest during a row between two groups of foreign nationals.

A 26-year-old man is still being questioned. Two other men, aged 31, and 36, have been released on police bail.

It is believed a dispute between the two groups started when a house was attacked at Haywood Way at 2100 BST on Saturday.

The trouble then moved to Rooney Park, where at least two shots were fired in the street. The attackers then fled the scene on foot.

A 25-year-old man arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder remains in police custody for questioning, she said.

Officers were called to Cummings Street in the city at 7.40pm, where they found Mr Lawskoski unconscious with head injuries. He was pronounced dead later in hospital.

A picture of Mr Lawskoski was released by the force earlier today as a senior officer in the case said it was "vitally important" that anyone with information about the murder contact police.

Det Supt Andy Stokes said: "Mr Lawskoski was attacked in the street in broad daylight and we know that many people saw what happened.

"We'd like to hear from anyone who saw a group of about five men, dressed in black, acting suspiciously either before or after the crime was committed at about 7.30pm on Saturday night."

The group of men, wearing dark clothing and heavy jackets, are believed to have fled the scene via nearby Silver Hill Road.

Police said they were wearing balaclavas and were armed with baseball bats or sticks.

A post-mortem examination revealed Mr Lawskoski died of head injuries.
